Derek Lam’s Spring 2012 show was all about minimalism. The inspiration for his collection primarily drew from the open dessert landscapes of Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann House in Palm Springs. Estée Lauder’s Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux was in charge of making sure this minimalistic approach came across in the makeup as well.
“The makeup compliments the fashion with a very dreamy, warm look of fresh skin,” he explained. “Shimmering eyes with muted yellow shadow highlighted by coppers and greens, lightly bronzed contoured cheeks and a sheer golden lip.”

Pecheux, who has worked with Lam for four seasons now, used Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder on the girls’ faces. He created the sun-drenched contours on models including Liu Wen and Joan Smalls by applying the limited edition Gelée Bronzer (launching January 2012) to cheeks and shadowing eyes with yellow, copper and green powders. A glaze of ginger-hued gloss finished the look. Famed manicurist Jin Soon Choi polished off the look with Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Nude Attitude – the perfect “barely there” look for spring. ~ Fabiana Santana
